Mark Sable Newsletter March 2026
ANNOUCEMENTS!
I usually try to write about something other than me, so that my newsletters aren’t pure self-promotion. This month, however, I have so many cool announcements that I hope you’ll indulge me.
FAREWELL TO SEASONS
For the past year, I’ve been working on an incredibly special graphic novel that I’ve been dying to share with you all:
MIKE MCREADY’S FAREWELL TO SEASONS is a graphic novel that I wrote based on a rock opera by legendary Pearl Jam, Temple of the Dog and Mad Seasons guitarist Mike McCready.
FAREWELL TO SEASONS is a gritty coming of age story tinged with magical realism, based on the rise and fall of Seattle’s grunge scene. It’s illustrated by Sebastian Priz, and published by Z2 comics, which specializes in high end music-based books.
But it’s much more than just a graphic novel. The deluxe edition comes with an 11-track vinyl album of songs that Mike McCready has written based on the fictionalized characters and bands in the book. It’s a true multimedia extravaganza.
This has been a dream project for me. Pearl Jam’s VS was one of the first albums I ever owned, and Mike’s music was the soundtrack of my college years and beyond. Seattle’s music scene has always been a source of fascination, and I could not have had a better source for what really happened there than Mike, who not only created genre-defining music (Yellow Ledbetter, anyone?) but witnessed and survived the plague of substance abuse that killed so many of his friends and peers.
I became attached to this project when I met Mike last year at Emerald City Comic-Con in Seattle. He could not be more down to earth, and I couldn’t have asked for a better collaborator. I still can’t believe he entrusted me with what is essentially his life story (although it’s honestly much more than that). Early in my career, Rantz Hoseley, Z2’s VP of Editorial recruited me to be a part of the Eisner Award-winning Tori Amos’s Comic Book Tattoo Anthology, so when Mike brought the book to them, I got to be part of a real dream team.
I’ll have much more to say about the book (I can’t wait to show you Sebastian’s art), but for now, know that the graphic novel is out on October 6, 2026, and you can pre-order it here.
CIRCUS MAXIUS
The final issue of my comic book series CIRCUS MAXIMUS is in stores now! A heist set in Ancient Rome, it’s illustrated by Giorgio Pontrelli, with colors by Emilio Lecce, Letters by Dave Sharpe and covers by Paul Azaceta.
Each cover up until this point featured one of the crew of criminals who were stealing Emperor Nero’s imperial treasure. This cover features Nero himself. The so-called mad emperor has been one of the most unhinged – and yet must fun – character’s I’ve ever written. I hope you enjoy the final confrontation between him and our heroes, and the ending itself.
As always, while I’d prefer if you bought my work at your local comic book store, you can also order CIRCUS MAXIMUS directly from the publisher, Mad Cave studios, here.
FIRST STAND-UP COMEDY SHOW OF 2026
This Sunday, at 8PM Pacific Time, I’ll be doing stand-up at the iconic Ice House in Pasadena as part of Ahmed Bharoocha’s FRESH COMICS showcase.
With the exception of a single joke, my entire act is otherwise entirely new. You can get tickets – which as I understand are selling out quickly - here.
I’d really love it if you can make it out.
Hoping this finds you all well,
Mark
